Settlement of Commercial Cases - Papering The Deal

Corporate and Business Law Section
ICLE

Thursday, May 20
1:30 - 3 p.m.

Settlement of commercial and other general litigated matters often involves not only payments of money over a period of time but also other undertakings by one or more of the parties. Learn from two experienced attorneys about the disadvantages of attempting to articulate the settlement on the record before leaving court or in an order or stipulation, as opposed to using a separate settlement agreement incorporated by reference in the order. The panelists will discuss details and provisions that can be used in settlement agreements to avoid controversies and discourage nonperformance.
